Actor Damien Hardung, who plays James, revealed that filming season two pushed him to emotional limits, calling it really dark and saying it brought him to a point he didn’t know was healthy anymore. That’s how deep this season gets.

On May 17, 2024, Deadline confirmed that Maxton hall is officially getting a second season. This came after the series became the most watched international show on Prime Video in its first week, which is seriously impressive.

Let’s dive into everything we know so far, including the storyline, cast, release date, trailer, and what to expect as the series continues to heat up. Maxton hall has become a favorite among many Prime Video subscribers since its 2024 debut, quickly becoming the most successful non American Amazon Original series launch to date.
With a second season on the horizon, we can expect even more thrilling drama based on Mona Kasdan’s novel Save Me the adaptation Maxton hall involves Ruby and James as students at the prestigious Maxton hall private school. The drama unfolds when Ruby accidentally discovers a secret, leading to a tense confrontation with James, a wealthy heir. However, what starts as tension soon evolves into undeniable chemistry.
As you may remember, by the end of season one, James and Ruby stayed together, resisting the attempts of of James father trying to separate them. James chose not to attend Oxford and pursue his passions, unsure of where life would lead him, but his journey took a painful turn when his mother passed away.
On the other hand, Lydia was pregnant with Sutton’s baby. She kept it to herself because she hadn’t yet decided what to do. It seems like things are pretty complicated, huh?
The first season was an accurate adaptation of the book Sudden. So assuming the second season follows the same path, how does the story continue Save youe the second book in the novel series picks up right where Save Me leaves off with Ruby and James still together but facing new challenges. After the death of James mother Cordelia, he struggles to cope with his emotions. In a moment of weakness, he drunkenly kisses another girl at a party, leading Ruby to decide she needs to leave him. Despite their separation, their connection is undeniable and James spends the rest of the book proving that he’s totally serious about Ruby and wants to make things work.
Eventually, Lynn breaks the news about James mom to Ruby and she rushes to James house to offer support. But when James tries to apologize for the kiss, Ruby can’t handle it and walks away, still hurt.
As Christmas and New Year come and go, Ruby spends time with her friends who but she realizes that she still loves James, even though she knows she has to move on. She makes the tough decision to drive to his house after midnight, return his hoodie and tell him she loves him but needs to let go.
Meanwhile, things aren’t looking any better for the twins. Lydia’s pregnant and James, who’s still struggling with his own demons, doesn’t know how to help her. When he finally learns about Lydia’s pregnancy, he steps up, realizing she needs him. Lydia then reveals that Ruby still has feelings for James and wants them back together. So James decides to fight for Ruby and joins the organizing committee of a big event, trying to prove his commitment.
Things seem to settle between Ruby and James after some talks and they begin to reconnect. But just as things are looking up, more drama unfolds. Amber starts getting closer to Wren and James gets jealous. The boy starts feeling like James is putting Ruby ahead of them, but they talk it out and everything smooths over.
Then the blast. Cyril walks in on Lydia and Graham having an emotional conversation and a hug. Turns out Cyril’s got feelings for Lydia, which sets him off, but he seems to take it in stride after a chat, or so we think.
The next day, Ruby finds herself in hot water when the director shows her photos of her with Graham, photos James took earlier now being used against her. Ruby is suspended from school and her trust in James is shattered. Can they rebuild their relationship after this betrayal? And the second book ends like this? What do you think though?

5️⃣ Themes, Expectations, and Shocking Twists in Season 2
One of the more intriguing possibilities for season two is that the show could take some creative liberties with the source material. In the books, James and Ruby’s relationship goes through a lot of ups and downs, but there’s a chance the series could fast track their romance, perhaps even throwing in a Kwiki wedding as a major plot twist. Imagine Ruby and James rushing into marriage to solidify their bond, but of course we all know that might create more problems than it solves, so I don’t think it will happen.
Could a hasty decision like this backfire? Especially with the brewing tensions around them? It would be a shocking move, so be ready for everything.
It’s no surprise that season two is going to be a lot darker than the first. Damian himself confirmed that things are taking a more intense turn return this time around, he said in the podcast Short Take. I am definitely excited to see the second season of Maxton hall because I just did the ADR for it and the second season is like really, really grim and dark and a lot of grief and trauma I had, like, a really tough time shooting that.
We’re definitely leaving behind the lighter moments of the first season. And as Maxton hall really starts to dig into its secrets, we’re about to dive deep into some gritty and intense territory.
And for the burning question, when will we get to see it? Filming for season two of Maxton hall has already kicked off over the summer of 2024. And while we don’t have an official premiere date just yet, there’s good news on the horizon. Damien doing ADR for the show, which is usually done toward the end of production to perfect the audio. This could mean they’re getting pretty close to wrapping things up, so fingers crossed we might be seeing those new episodes sometime later this year. The wait is almost over and I’m sure it’ll be worth it. Wouldn’t it be great to get Maxton hall season two during the summer?
